District Conference at The Homestead  March 17 - 20, 2005


Saturday, March 12, 2005:  Arrive at Roanoke Airport on United Express Flight No. UA-5352 at 6:20 p.m.  The Team is to be greeted by District 7570 Rotarians who will join them for an evening meal.  Overnight at Fairfield Inn in Christiansburg, Va.


Sunday, March 13, 2005:  Sleep in.

11:00 a.m. Briefing at 11:00 a.m. (G.S.E. Chair).

1:00 p.m. Transfer to Area 9 Host Rotarians from the Bluefield Club; travel to Bluefield, Virginia.

3:00 p.m. Meet Host Families at First Community Bank Corporate Center.

Evening:  Reception and Dinner with Bluefield Rotarians at home of Frank and Cookie Johnson.


Monday, March 14, 2005:  Sleep in and relax.

11:30 a.m. Team meets at F.C.B. Corporate Center for outing to Pipestem State Park. 

After lunch, the Team will meet with Jim Phillips at the Lookout Tower for a lecture on wildlife and fauna of the region.

Dinner with Host Families.

7:00 p.m. Rotaract Club Informational Meeting at Bluefield College.


Tuesday, March 15, 2005:  Vocational Day; Team Members to be transported to Vocational Hosts by Host Families.

                      Matti Honkala:  Hospice facility in the morning; Dr. Johnson in the afternoon.

                      Tuula Kukkola:  Marketing Department of First Community Bank.

                      Sari Laari:  Flowers Bakery.

                      Sari Marttinen:  Marshall Miller and Associates.

                      Mika Lokka:  Captain Boggs of the Army National Guard.

Evening:  Dinner with Host Families at the home of Charles and Mary Thomason.


Wednesday, March 16, 2005:  9:00 a.m. Team picked up by Rotarians from the Tazewell Club at F.C.B. Corporate Offices.

Morning:  Crab Orchard Museum and Pioneer Park and the Town of Tazewell.

Noon:  Lunch with Tazewell Rotarians.

Afternoon:  Outing to Burke’s Garden including Ostrich Farm, Camel Farm, and Cattle Farms.

5:30 p.m. Special Meeting with the Frog Level Yacht Club.

7:00 p.m. Dinner with Bluefield and Tazewell Rotarians at Cuz’z Uptown Barbecue. 


Thursday, March 17, 2005:  7:00 a.m. Meeting of Bluefield Club with Team to present the Pro-gram; Team then departs to transfer to Area 7.

Noon:  Team meets Rocky Mount Club  at the Transfer Point  which is the Cracker Barrel Restaurant (I-81 & U.S. 460 in Christiansburg). 

The balance of the day and evening is Free Time in Host Home.


Friday, March 18, 2005:            Shopping at Valley View Mall in Roanoke.


Saturday, March 19, 2005:  District Conference.  Team is to arrive no later than 8:30 a.m.

9:00 a.m.  G.S.E. Team presentation to Plenary Session (20 minutes).

Sunday, March 20, 2005:  District Conference concludes.  Team returns to Area 7 after the Conference concludes and their Rocky Mount Host Home. 

The balance of day and evening are Free Time.
